Privacy Policy
Last updated: 26 October 2026
In short: Space has no accounts and no analytics, and we don't collect your personal data. Everything else runs on your device. The free version shows ads from Google AdMob, which may collect some data as described in section 3; Cosmos Pro removes all ads.
This Privacy Policy explains how the Space — Observable Universe app (“the App”, “we”, “us”) handles information. By using the App you agree to this policy.
1. Information We Collect
We collect no personal information. The App does not ask you to create an account, sign in, or provide your name, email or any other personal detail. We do not use analytics SDKs. The only third-party SDK in the App is Google AdMob, which shows ads in the free version (see section 3).
Location (optional). To show where each object is in your sky right now, the App can ask for your device's location while you use it. It asks only for an approximate position (to about 3 km), uses it on your device to work out where to point, and never stores it, sends it to us or shares it with anyone. If you decline, everything else in the App still works; only the "in your sky" directions are hidden. You can change this at any time in Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services.
2. Internet Connection & Third-Party Data
The App connects to the internet to download public data. None of these requests contains your location or any information about you:
- the catalogue of confirmed exoplanets from the NASA Exoplanet Archive (operated by NASA / Caltech);
- the Astronomy Picture of the Day and other public images from NASA's open APIs (api.nasa.gov) and full-disc images of Earth from NASA EPIC (epic.gsfc.nasa.gov);
- the current position of the International Space Station from wheretheiss.at;
- the list of our other apps and the App's ad settings from our own server (apps.teknawi.net).
If you are offline, the App keeps working with its built-in catalogue. In the free version the App also connects to Google AdMob to load ads (see section 3). As with any internet request, these services receive your device's IP address to send the data back; see the NASA privacy policy and the privacy practices of NASA / Caltech.
3. Advertising
The free version of Space shows ads from Google AdMob (Google Mobile Ads SDK). People who bought Cosmos Pro never see ads.
To show and measure ads, Google may collect: your device's advertising identifier (IDFA), only if you allow tracking; an approximate location derived from your IP address; advertising data, such as which ads were shown and how you interacted with them; and diagnostic data, such as crash and performance information. Google uses this data for third-party advertising: showing ads, limiting how often you see them, measuring them and preventing fraud. We don't share your settings or preferences with Google or advertisers. The app also downloads its ad settings from our server; that request doesn't include your account or anything you saved in the app.
Your choices: iOS asks whether Space may track you. If you choose “Ask App Not to Track”, ads still appear but without your advertising identifier, and you can change this at any time in Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, the app first asks for your consent with Google's consent form, and you can change your choice at any time from “Ad privacy choices” in the app's settings. How Google uses information from apps that use its services: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
4. Purchases
The App offers an optional one-time in-app purchase (“Cosmos Pro”). All payments are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see or receive your payment details, card number, or Apple ID. Purchase and restore are handled by Apple’s StoreKit; your entitlement is verified on your device. Please see Apple’s Privacy Policy for how Apple handles transactions.
5. Data Storage
Any settings or preferences (such as your chosen language or whether you’ve completed the intro) are stored only on your device using Apple’s standard local storage. This data never leaves your device and is removed if you delete the App.
6. Children’s Privacy
The App is safe for all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13; the ads in the free version work as described in section 3.
7. Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes, we will update this page and revise the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
